Chapter 36 - Northwest Indiana

~ Creaky Knees and Rusty Keys ~

We had a great crowd (29 people) come out for the excellent buffet at the Blue Chip Casino this month. This place is always a favorite, and especially so with at least one of our members who walked away with a profit this time! Congratulations! Win or lose, I hope that everyone had a good time. If you didn't get your belly full, you just didn't try!

On a sad note, just before our meeting I learned that a former Chapter 36 member (from back before our reorganization), Mike Fisher, WT9W, had passed away. Mike moved to PA after retiring as an electrical engineer from NIPSCO. He was very active with the Porter Co. ARC and the Porter Co. VE Testing team for many years. He was the backup control operator who helped with the Joan Martin Elementary School radio contact with the International Space Station on July 31, 2001. Mike was a very good friend, and I will miss him. Here is his obituary.

We didn't get any photos this month (I forgot my camera)... so here is a pic of me (left) and WT9W (right). The pic was taken after our successful QSO with Jim Voss on the space station. There were 17 students who were able to have their questions answered, and we were all smiles afterwards.
