Chapter 36 - Northwest Indiana

~ Creaky Knees and Rusty Keys ~

My apologies. I lost or tossed my meeting notes from the meeting at Ryan's Buffet. Does this qualify as a senior moment? So, the attendance below is from memory... which is obviously failing! If you were at the meeting are you aren't listed below, please send me a note and I'll add you to the record. There are 21 members and guests listed below, and it seems like there may have been one or two more people present.

Allen, W9DZ, let us know that W1AW portable operations are returning to Indiana on December 10th. Allen will be helping to activate W1AW/9 and invites others to help also. The contact person for the event is Mike Tessmer, K9NW. The only quick easy email address I could find for Mike is k9nw@qth.com. Try to drop him a note there if you are interested in participating also. Or at least get out there and contact them!

Gary, WA6UOO, brought the only show and tell item... an instruction manual for a very old interface (late 1980's) for a Commodore 64 computer, called an Super ComShack 64. This was a very neat device in its day, and it was capable of provding repeater controller operations, remote HF/VHF autopatch, and also HF/VHF remote-base operations. The developer is/was Bob Blumenkranz, NI6R, and his product (renamed Ultra ComShack 64) was reviewed in the Feb. 1990 edition of 73 Magazine. Click here for a photo of the cover of Gary's instruction manual. And click here to view the 73 Magazine review article (starting on page 32). Gary has talked recently to NI6R and he reports that he is now using an iPhone to control his remote base.

There were no people pictures this month.
