Chapter 36 - Northwest Indiana

~ Creaky Knees and Rusty Keys ~

What a great breakfast meeting! Yes, it was another record attendance this time, and I thank you all for coming out and making this meeting so successful. We had 38 adults and 4 children, and I think that all had a good time and a good meal. We were at the capacity of the half-room at Ponderosa, and if we keep growing like this I'm sure we'll have to ask them for the entire room next time we meet there.

The contest was another hard one this month, and you had to work for it... digging through your old QSL cards or logbooks. The YOUNGEST HAM you had worked on-the-air meant you had to look at both sides of the QSL, because it was usually on the back where they told you their age. Thanks to Bruce Balsley W9OTN, Jim Harney KF9EX, Dave Nicolaus W9DN, and Bob Pence W9ORW, who all brought cards from young teenagers. Dave brought a couple of cards, and Bob brought in a good handful (6-8 cards) that were many friends of his when they were all first licensed together. I think that was all, but let me know if I missed anyone.

Oh, duh... the CONTEST WINNER was Mark Skowronski K9MQ, with a copy of a certificate commemorating 1 year of ham radio operation by 10-year-old Cale Kochenour, KB1GPV, and his SSB contact with Mark in 2001. Congratulations Mark! A surprise prize was added to this contest, and Mark took home a 4-CD set of Ham Radio Magazine (1977-1983) that is published by ARRL and CQ Magazine.

Thanks to all of you for bringing your entries and participating in the contest!

Many thanks to Paul AE9P for snapping the following pics:
