Chapter 36 - Northwest Indiana

~ Creaky Knees and Rusty Keys ~

OK, not a record this time, but still a great turnout of 34 people at the Islamorada Fish Company Restaurant located at the Bass Pro Shop in Portage. It was a beautiful environment, with the massive fireplace, and huge fish displays on the walls. It was also a little more expensive than our usual meal, but I hope that everyone was satisfied. Its fun to splurge once in awhile, but we'll keep looking out for bargains too.

On the flip-side from the March contest for the youngest ham, this month's challenge was to find the QSL or log entry for the OLDEST HAM instead. We had some great entries: Dave W9DN worked VE2AMQ, age 70. Jim KF9EX worked WA6DOF, age 76. Ron AF7H worked ZL2AAW, age 83. George K9WWT worked W9RQG, age 92. And the winner was Bruce W9OTN, who worked the only three-digit contender, W5BQU at age 101. Wow! Congratulations Bruce! The surprise prize that Bruce won was a small backpack, and inside was also a DVD with all the years of Ham Radio Magazine from 1968-1990. Thanks to all of you for participating in this very difficult contest!
