Chapter 36 - Northwest Indiana

~ Creaky Knees and Rusty Keys ~

Its always a feast at the Golden Corral, even though Bruce was a little disappointed that their special deal on ribs had ended. We had 19 members and guests and all had a good time. We also had a mini VE Test session at the end so we could process the paperwork for Renee W9MDF to get her upgrade to General class with credit as a pre 3/21/1987 Technician. Thanks to James KC9KTV and Nancy KC9NEB for helping with the paperwork. Also thanks to Steve Melachrinos, W3HF, for supplying the needed proof from his callbook collection that Renee needed for this upgrade.

Gary WA6UOO brought in a couple of reproduction newspapers of The Honolulu Star-Bulletin reporting the bombing of Pearl Harbor. They sure looked authentic! Mike WU9D gave us a short story about a bad experience getting some kind of malware on his phone from a flashlight app that he had downloaded. Remember that your smartphone is a mini-computer! Keep it up to date with security updates and a good anti-virus and anti-malware program... just like you do on your home computer. And only download apps from trusted sources. Thanks Gary and Mike for your showing and telling!

Ed K9TZT who brought in a couple of tubes to auction off for the benefit of our treasury. This time it was a pair of 2-inch CRT's, such as might be used in a small oscilloscope or service monitor. James KC9KTV scarfed them up for only $5 each. Thanks to both of you for helping out our chapter!
