Chapter 36 - Northwest Indiana

~ Creaky Knees and Rusty Keys ~

Twenty five members and guests joined us for some delicious Chinese cuisine at our July meeting.

Tom Ruggles, W8FIB, brought the beautiful plaque he received from ARRL on completing the DXCC Challenge for show-and-tell. The ARRL website says, The DXCC Challenge Award is earned by working and confirming at least 1,000 DXCC band-points on any Amateur bands, 160 through 6 meters (except 60 meters). It is a testament to Tom's determination and operating skill. Congratulations, Tom!

Don't forget that August 16th is the VTI Gathering at the former Valpo Tech for their 2014 reunion. This is the 140th Anniversary of the school founded there as The Dodge Institute (later the Dodge Institute of Telegraphy), and also the 70th Anniversary of the name change of the school that was known ever after as the Valparaiso Technical Institute. A special event station will operate as K9Q so if you can't be there in person, maybe you can make a contact with them on the air! The time is from 10:30am to 4:30pm local Valpo time at "Dodge Hall" (1150 West Lincolnway in Valpo). A $20 entrance fee is requested that includes lunch. See the full details on their website or contact the organizers via email.
