Chapter 36 - Northwest Indiana

~ Creaky Knees and Rusty Keys ~

We had twenty seven members and guests gather at the Hacienda Restaurant in Michigan City for our August meeting. Good food and a good time was had by all.

Tom W8FIB brought another beautiful plaque he received from ARRL... this one was the 5BDXCC (#7905) with endorsements for 12, 17, and 30 meters. Congratulations, Tom!

Gary WA6UOO brought a simple 5-element Yagi beam built for transmitter hunting. The boom was made of PVC pipe and could be taken apart into two sections for easy transporting. The elements were copper wire.

Dave NU9I brought his VHF/UHF “go kit” for emergency operations. The dual band radio is programmed for all of the local repeaters as well as Skywarn weather net and NOAA weather frequencies. The box has an on board 12v 12ah battery with a 12A AC power supply. It can also be charged with an external solar panel or a charger maintainer. There are inside banana jacks or external lighter socket for connection to chargers, external power, or to power 12 VDC accessories.. There is a panel mounter DC voltmeter to monitor battery status. The case contains a 300 ohm dual band twin lead antenna with 15' of RG58 and a para-cord monkey's paw to hang it from a tree limb. Extra coax and a folding solar panel are also available if needed.

Thanks to everyone for the great show-and-tell items this month!
